Some New Perspectives on Pairing in Nuclei
نویسنده
چکیده
Ever since the work of Richardson in the mid-60s1, it has been recognized that the Pairing Model (PM) is exactly solvable, even in the presence of non-degenerate single-particle levels. In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in the PM, with several applications reported that build on this exact solvability 2. This talk reviews two recent applications of the PM in nuclear physics. Both build on the fact that there exists a classical electrostatic analogy for every PM. One makes use of this analogy to obtain a pictorial representation of how superconductivity arises in finite nuclear systems 3. The other has led us to propose a new mechanism for sd dominance in interacting boson models of nuclei4.

Nuclear pairing correlations are known to play an important role in various single-particle and collective aspects of nuclear structure. After the first idea by A. Bohr, B. Mottelson and D. Pines on similarity of nuclear pairing to electron superconductivity, S.T. Belyaev gave a thorough analysis of the manifestations of pairing in complex nuclei. The current revival of interest in nuclear pair...

A fermion realization of compact symplectic algebra provides a natural framework for studying pairing correlations of many-body interactions in nuclei. Here, we use quantum deformation concept in order to describe pairing correlations in atomic nuclei. While the nondeformed limit of the theory provides a reasonable and overall description of certain nuclear properties and fine structure effects...
متن کاملSTUDY OF NUCLEAR LEVEL DENSITY AND SPIN CUT-OFF FACTORS
Nuclear level densities and spin cut-off factors have been deduced for nuclei in the mass region 24‹A‹63,from a microscopic theory, which includes nuclear pairing interaction. Single particle levels for both Seeger and Nilsson potentials were used in the calcdations. Level densities extracted from the theory are compared with their conesponding experimental values, It is found that the overall...

The Relativistic Continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) theory, which properly takes into account the pairing correlation and the coupling to (discretized) continuum via Bogoliubov transformation in a microscopic and self-consistent way, has been reviewed together with its new interpretation of the halo phenomena observed in light nuclei as the scattering of particle pairs into the continuum, the ...
متن کاملCockpit Crew Pairing Problem in Airline Scheduling: Shortest Path with Resources Constraints Approach
Increasing competition in the air transport market has intensified active airlines’ efforts to keep their market share by attaching due importance to cost management aimed at reduced final prices. Crew costs are second only to fuel costs on the cost list of airline companies. So, this paper attempts to investigate the cockpit crew pairing problem. The set partitioning problem has been used for ...
